Chenzhou’s intangible cultural heritage projects, such as Qifengdu fish rice noodles making, Jiahe Casting Technique, and Jiahe Wedding Songs, featured on the China Media Group (CMG) programme “Go All over China” at 10 pm on June 19.
Jiahe Wedding Songs reflect the wedding customs of Han women, which is mainly spread in Jiahe County. It combines poetry, song, dance, and performance, and can be divided into several parts.
The songs are sung in various forms, including solo, chorus, duet, singing while speaking, singing while dancing, and crying. The melodies are graceful and gentle, with a rigorous musical structure. The keynote of the melody ends in the upbeat or non-fortis position of the downbeat, forming frequent and rare negative termination.
There are more than 2,000 songs still being passed down today. In 2006, Jiahe Wedding Songs was included in the first batch of provincial ICH representative items list. In 2021, Jiahe Wedding Songs was included on the representative list of national ICH items.
